In a sea of confusion Bonnie sought out the green eyes that had always been a place of solace, of comfort. She could look into those eyes and find the strength in his pain and with that the ability to stay strong too. She found no comfort this time. No strength. She found only sadness, regret. She saw a man whose time was up. A man who’s eternity of death was about to end.
“I could save you” she whispered her voice weak; she already knew his reply the moment her broken words left her lips. He had cheated death so many times before. He would not do it again.
“We both know that can’t happen” he returned “and what would happen to you? How would the withes react to something like that?” he asked and in that moment Bonnie wasn’t sure she cared what her ancestor’s consequences would be. Tears were threatening to spill from his green orbs now and she could tell it was all he could do to stop them from falling. “She’s not going to make it, is she?”
Bonnie closed her eyes the reality of what was happening becoming too much to bear. How could she tell him? How could she tell him that even though Elena was on her way that there was no way? No possible way that she’d make it before his time was up. Finding his eyes once more she whispered “No” he voice much stronger than she thought was possible.
He nodded and as he turned away from her she could see a tear roll down his cheek. “Could you tell her…” he ran his hands through his hair unable to finish the sentence. Her hand found his and Bonnie gripped it tight.
“I’ll tell her Stefan, I will”
“Thank you Bonnie, not just for this…for everything and you should know, know that I’m sorry for everything we did, everything I did” Bonnie gripped his hand tighter looking back at Jeremy “Call her” she mouthed and Jeremy picked up his cell phone.
“I already knew” she whispered to Stefan as they sat there gazing at the moon “I already knew”
